The short version
Dental veneers are thin, custom-crafted shells bonded to the front of your teeth to correct staining, chips, gaps, and shape issues in as little as two visits. At Markiewicz Dental in Mundelein, IL, we design veneers to look completely natural — the goal isn’t a “veneer smile,” it’s your smile, refined.
If whitening can’t fix the discoloration, or you’ve spent years covering your smile in photos because of a chip, a gap, or a tooth shape you’ve never liked, veneers are one of the most powerful tools in cosmetic dentistry — durable, long-lasting, and tailored tooth by tooth.

Veneers solve a wide range of cosmetic concerns in one treatment:
One honest boundary: veneers are a cosmetic solution for structurally healthy teeth. If a tooth has significant decay or damage, a crown protects it better — and if your alignment concerns are more than minor, clear aligners may be the right first step. Your consultation sorts out which path actually serves your smile.
The gold standard. Porcelain is highly stain-resistant, exceptionally natural-looking — it reflects light the way real enamel does — and durable, typically lasting 10 to 20 years with proper care. Each veneer is custom-fabricated by a dental lab from a precise scan of your teeth, which is why porcelain takes two visits and costs more.
A more affordable alternative sculpted directly onto your teeth from the same tooth-colored resin we use for fillings — often completed in a single visit with little or no enamel preparation. The trade-offs: composite can stain over time and typically lasts 5 to 7 years before needing refresh or replacement. For some patients, it’s also a lower-commitment way to test-drive a new smile.
It starts with a consultation — we talk through what you want to change, examine your teeth, and preview your anticipated results so you can see the plan before committing to it. For porcelain veneers, we then gently prepare a thin layer of enamel from the tooth surface, capture a digital scan, and place temporaries while the lab crafts your custom veneers. At your second visit, we check the fit, shade, and shape with you — you approve them before anything is permanent — then bond them in place and polish your bite. You walk out with the smile you previewed.
Good candidates have healthy teeth and gums, enough enamel for bonding, and clear goals about what they want to change. Habits matter too — if you grind your teeth at night, we’ll talk about a nightguard to protect your investment. And because traditional porcelain veneers involve reshaping enamel, they’re a decision to make once and make well: we’d rather spend an extra visit getting the plan right than rush you into something permanent.

Patient reviews
I have been a patient here for over twenty years and I would not go anywhere else. Everyone knows my name the moment I walk in, and the care has always been thorough and completely honest.
Dr. Markiewicz walked me through my implant plan on a 3D scan so I understood exactly what would happen. The surgery was far easier than I expected and the tooth looks completely natural.
I used to dread the dentist. This office changed that. They explained every step, checked in constantly, and never once made me feel rushed or judged about the work I had put off.
