What Are the Advantages of Getting Onlays for Your Teeth?

Having a damaged tooth doesn’t automatically mean you need to get a dental crown. In fact, you might not have enough damage for one. At Markiewicz Dental, our dentists in Mundelein, IL, provide another tooth restoration option onlays. These restorations provide several benefits, including all of the following.

Offers a Dental Crown Alternative

Dental crowns are a standard form of treatment for decayed or worn teeth. But they’re not always the most suitable option. If tooth damage isn’t widespread or severe enough for a crown, an onlay or partial crown is a great alternative.

Has High Durability

Onlays provide a long-lasting solution for restoring a tooth. They’re incredibly durable, making them less prone to developing cracks or wearing out, especially when you take good care of them. You might have your onlays for many years with proper oral health habits and regular dental visits.

Strengthens Teeth

Teeth with damage or decay are weaker, increasing their risk of fracturing. Onlays give these teeth a layer of protection that makes them stronger and reduces the risk of cracks and other damage.

Preserves Tooth Structures

Getting onlays in Mundelein, IL, is less invasive than other restoration treatments, such as dental crowns. Since they’re partial crowns, we don’t need to remove as much enamel as with full dental crowns. That leaves more of your natural teeth intact.

Provides Visual Appeal

Onlays can enhance the appearance of damaged teeth, giving them a natural look rather than an unsightly one. These restorations are made using tooth-colored materials, allowing them to blend in with your surrounding teeth.

Offers a Straightforward and Simple Process

Getting onlays isn’t a complex or lengthy process. It involves a couple of steps on our part:

  • Taking impressions of the affected tooth
  • Creating a custom onlay using these impressions
  • Bonding the onlay to your tooth and adjusting it if needed

What is a Periodontist?

A periodontist is a dental specialist who focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of
